Instructors

We offer the programs necessary to become a driver education instructor. To qualify, you must:

  • Be of good reputation
  • Be a high school graduate
  • Hold a valid driver's license for the preceding five years in the areas in which you want to teach
  • Possess a Texas driver's license for the type of vehicle used in instruction
  • Have no felony convictions
  • Meet the driving record evaluation standards established for Texas bus drivers

By the end of training, the student needs to provide their current driving record. We will provide the application.

In addition to the general qualifications listed above, you must successfully complete the teacher preparation programs required to qualify for driver education in-car and classroom instruction. The program is approved by the Texas Education Agency for licensing instructors for Driver Training Schools.

A person interested in our programs has several options:

  1. Driver Education I & II - for Teaching Assistant - This program is equivalent to six semester hours (90 clock hours). Upon successful completion and licensing, you can acquire a Teaching Assistant license. This license will enable you to teach adults or teenagers in-car at a Driver Training School.
  2. Driver Education I, II, & III - for Teaching Assistant Full - This program is equivalent to nine semester hours (135 clock hours). Upon successful completion and licensing, you can acquire a Teaching Assistant Full license. This license will enable you to teach adults or teenagers in-car at a Driver Training School. You may also teach the classroom portion of a Teenage Driver Education Course.
  3. Driver Education I, II, & III - for Driver Education Teacher - This program is equivalent to nine semester hours (135 clock hours). You must also meet the following requirements: Person must hold a bachelor's degree and a Texas Teaching Certificate with proof of successfull completion of EXCET or TECAT and successfully complete Driver Education I, II, & III. Upon successful completion and licensing, you can acquire a Driver Education Teacher license. This license will enable you to teach adults or teenagers in-car at a Driver Training School. You may also teach the classroom portion of a Teenage Driver Education course.
